Find items
To search 1Password, use the search field above the list of items. Or choose Edit > Find > Find Item (Option-Command-F).

Search for weak logins: Click the tiny arrow on the left of the Search field, and choose Weak Logins from the menu. 1Password displays the advanced search controls, with the search criterion set to Password strength is less than or equal to weak (see Perform an Advanced Search). This filters the list to display only logins with.
Click Expand Search to All Fields to search more than just titles, usernames, and websites. Or click the magnifying glassand choose Search All Fields.
To search in 1Password mini, click the 1Password icon in the menu bar, or press Option-Command-Backslash ().
Search options
To use advanced searches to narrow your search results, click the magnifying glassand choose Show Search Options (Control-Option-Command-F) or one of the sample searches:
- Recently Used Items
- Recently Changed Items
- Weak Logins
- Items with Attachments
You can choose a specific category to search.
To add or remove search criteria, click the Add buttonor the Remove buttonto the right.
When you use multiple search criteria, 1Password will match all of them. To match any or none of them, hold the Option key when adding search criteria. This is called a Boolean query. It is named after English mathematician, George Boole.
To rearrange and nest search criteria, drag and drop them.
Find items
To search 1Password, use the search field above the list of items. Tap Search Everything to search more than just titles.
To search a specific category, tap Categories and choose the category before searching.
You can also use Spotlight to search in 1Password without opening the app.
Find items
To search the current view, use the search field above the list of items (Ctrl + F). To search all items, press Ctrl + Shift + F.
To search for items without any tags, use tag:. Follow with a tag name to search for items with a particular tag. You can also use title: to search only item titles, and file: to search for attachments.
To search in 1Password mini, click the 1Password icon in the menu bar, or press Ctrl + Alt + backslash ().

To search 1Password by item titles and websites, tap the magnifying glassabove the item list.
To search a specific category, tap Categories and choose the category before searching.
When you turn on Spotlight Search in 1Password, you can search for 1Password items and vaults without even opening the 1Password app. Because you can find your items and vaults so easily, you can use generated passwords for more apps and services than you otherwise might have, which means you can be more secure in more places.
Your secrets are safe in 1Password
1Password safely encrypts all your information. Spotlight Search only has access to item names and vault names, which need to be indexed outside 1Password to be displayed in search results.
Your Master Password still protects your data
Just as Apple has designed Search to only work when your device is unlocked, using Spotlight Search with 1Password does not bypass your Master Password or undermine the security of 1Password. Your data is encrypted with your Master Password, and that remains true even when you use Search to find your 1Password items and vaults.
You can tell 1Password to automatically lock when you leave the app or after a specific amount of time. In 1Password, tap Settings > Security. You’ll find several settings and options:
- Lock Now: 1Password will lock, and if Touch ID or Face ID is on, it will even be temporarily turned off until your Master Password is entered.
- Lock on Exit: Lock 1Password every time you leave the app or lock your device.
- Auto-Lock: Lock 1Password after the specified amount of time has elapsed.
Protect yourself when using Spotlight Search
The advantages of using Spotlight Search outweigh the risks for most folks. Follow these tips to stay safe:
Don’t share your device passcode. If you use Search to find 1Password items and vaults, it’s important that you guard your device passcode as closely as your Master Password. Anyone who knows your device passcode can find out the names of items and vaults in 1Password.
Remove any sensitive information from item and vault names. Before you use Search, make sure your item names don’t contain any sensitive information like email addresses, usernames, or passwords.
